WICKENBURG — Developers proposed it. Neighbors opposed it. But ultimately, the bank will end up taking it back.

Saddleback Ranch, a controversial residential project that was ultimately approved by the City Council, is scheduled to be sold at a trustee sale in Mesa on July 29. The subdivision proposed by Brad Franklin of Franklin Hilton Holdings was originally slated to include single-family homes, duplexes and apartments across 80 acres near Vulture Mine Road and West Wickenburg Way.

After a long and vigorous public debate, Franklin agreed to scale it back to about 65 acres. Now market forces have conspired against the project, as the Union Bank of Gilbert hosts the trustee sale.

No minimum bid has been set.
